Summary

BonaCibo Kitten is a high-protein, low-grain dry formula developed for kittens up to 12 months old.
The first ingredient is dehydrated chicken protein at 46%, offering a dense, animal-based protein foundation to support rapid growth.
Baldo rice, maize, and chicken oil contribute digestible carbohydrates and fats, though maize provides additional plant-based energy.
Anchovy meal, krill meal, and anchovy oil deliver omega-3 fatty acids critical for brain development, skin, and coat health.
Hydrolyzed chicken liver and nucleotide yeast protein enhance palatability and support immune and digestive function.
The formula includes multiple functional additives, such as cranberry powder, psyllium, and prebiotic MOS, for promoting digestive health and immunity.
With 38% protein, 18% fat, 2.5% fiber, 8% ash, and 6% moisture, the dry matter content yields 40.4% protein and 33.1% carbohydrates.

Pros
Expand All
1

High animal protein base

Dehydrated chicken protein comprises 46% of the recipe, providing a dense and digestible source of animal protein.
2

Dry matter protein content

At 38% crude protein and 6% moisture, this translates to approximately 40.4% on a dry matter basis, aligning well with kitten growth needs.
3

Marine-sourced omegas, including anchovy meal, krill meal, and anchovy oil,

provide DHA and EPA, which support brain, skin, and coat health during development.
4

Immune and gut support

Ingredients like yeast protein, prebiotic MOS, seaweed, and psyllium contribute to digestive stability and immunity.
5

Chelated minerals included

Zinc is partially provided as a chelate (20 mg/kg), improving mineral bioavailability over standard inorganic forms.
6

Generous taurine inclusion

Taurine is present at 2,600 mg/kg, exceeding standard inclusion rates for vision and heart health.
Cons
Expand All
1

High carbohydrate load

Baldo rice and maize contribute to an estimated 33.1% carbohydrate content on a dry matter basis, which is high for carnivorous animals.
2

Single primary protein type

Chicken is the only named meat protein, limiting the variety in amino acid profile from other animal sources.
3

Synthetic antioxidant presence

EU-approved antioxidants are listed but not specified, making it unclear whether natural or synthetic types are used.
4

No DHA/EPA guarantees

Although marine ingredients are present, there are no declared DHA or EPA levels for quality assurance.
5

Unspecified fiber sources

Some fiber-rich additives (e.g., psyllium) are included, but the functional balance between soluble and insoluble fibers is not quantified.

Provide as many details as possible about BonaCibo: Kitten so we can make it better!

How the score is calculated?

The actual calculation of the score is based on sophisticated and advanced algorithm that takes into account multiple parameters.

To simplify the explanation, the calculation is based on three main criteria:

(1) Amount of protein (more is better)

(2) Amount of carbohydrates (less is better)

(3) Quality and source of ingredients.

Based on that 3 main criteria, 9 score calculation rules are used to compare the different foods.

One major assumption is that the closer an ingredient is to the top of the ingredient list, the greater its relative weight and contribution to the food.

In general, cat food is composed of protein, fats, carbohydrates, fibers, vitamins, and minerals.

Protein is the most important component in a cat's diet, and cats primarily get their protein from animal meat.

Fat is a primary source of energy and essential fatty acids.

Carbohydrates are controversial in a cat's diet, as cats are obligate carnivores and typically consume very few carbohydrates.

Fibers play an important role in digestion and food absorption, and vitamins and minerals are essential for different organism functions.

Dry matter values are used to compare the amount of nutrients in different cat foods. This means that moisture is excluded from the equation to provide a more accurate comparison.

Putting all of these and more into a formula results in a product score.

The maximum score a cat food can receive is 100. Points are added or removed based on the score calculation rules.
