Summary

Ownat Grain Free Prime – Kitten is a high-protein dry food formulated specifically for kittens aged 2 to 12 months, supporting their rapid growth, immune development, and high energy needs.
The first ingredient is fresh chicken (minimum 25% before extrusion), a highly digestible animal protein that provides essential amino acids for muscle development and overall growth.
Fresh turkey and dehydrated pork further enhance the protein profile, contributing to the product’s high crude protein content of 41%, which is critical for building lean body mass during the early life stage.
With 20% crude fat and an (estimated) metabolizable energy of 4121 kcal/kg, the formula delivers the dense caloric intake required by active, growing kittens.
Omega-3 (0.57%) and omega-6 (3.3%) fatty acids from fish oil and poultry fat support brain development, skin health, and a shiny coat.
Calcium (1.3%) and phosphorus (1%) are present in appropriate ratios to promote strong bone and dental development during the growth phase.
Functional ingredients like dried egg, brewer’s yeast, and salmon hydrolysate enhance palatability and provide additional bioavailable nutrients.
Prebiotics such as fructo- and mannan-oligosaccharides, along with marine algae and yucca schidigera, support digestive health and reduce stool odor.
Natural botanicals including thyme, chamomile, fennel, echinacea, and green tea offer antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may support immune resilience.
The absence of grains, artificial preservatives, and colorants makes the formula suitable for kittens with sensitivities to common fillers or additives.

Pros
Expand All
1

High animal protein content

50% fresh meat and multiple animal protein sources provide essential amino acids for optimal kitten growth and development.
2

Rich in energy and fat

With 20% fat and over 4100 kcal/kg, the formula meets the high caloric demands of growing kittens.
3

Balanced mineral profile for bone health

Calcium and phosphorus levels support skeletal development during the critical growth phase.
4

Digestive support with prebiotics

Inclusion of FOS, MOS, and yucca promotes gut health and improves nutrient absorption.
5

Natural antioxidant support

Botanicals like green tea, echinacea, and chamomile contribute to immune system support and oxidative stress reduction.
6

Grain-free formulation

Eliminates common cereal allergens, reducing the risk of food sensitivities in kittens.
Cons
Expand All
1

High ash content

At 8%, the ash level may be excessive for some kittens and could impact kidney workload over time.
2

Use of multiple protein sources

The inclusion of chicken, turkey, pork, and fish may not be ideal for kittens requiring limited-ingredient diets due to sensitivities.
3

Moderate carbohydrate level

Despite being grain-free, the 21% carbohydrate content from peas, cassava, and potato may be higher than some owners prefer for carnivorous diets.
4

Unspecified magnesium content

The lack of declared magnesium makes it difficult to assess urinary health implications.

Provide as many details as possible about Ownat: Grain Free Prime – Kitten so we can make it better!

How the score is calculated?

The actual calculation of the score is based on sophisticated and advanced algorithm that takes into account multiple parameters.

To simplify the explanation, the calculation is based on three main criteria:

(1) Amount of protein (more is better)

(2) Amount of carbohydrates (less is better)

(3) Quality and source of ingredients.

Based on that 3 main criteria, 9 score calculation rules are used to compare the different foods.

One major assumption is that the closer an ingredient is to the top of the ingredient list, the greater its relative weight and contribution to the food.

In general, cat food is composed of protein, fats, carbohydrates, fibers, vitamins, and minerals.

Protein is the most important component in a cat's diet, and cats primarily get their protein from animal meat.

Fat is a primary source of energy and essential fatty acids.

Carbohydrates are controversial in a cat's diet, as cats are obligate carnivores and typically consume very few carbohydrates.

Fibers play an important role in digestion and food absorption, and vitamins and minerals are essential for different organism functions.

Dry matter values are used to compare the amount of nutrients in different cat foods. This means that moisture is excluded from the equation to provide a more accurate comparison.

Putting all of these and more into a formula results in a product score.

The maximum score a cat food can receive is 100. Points are added or removed based on the score calculation rules.
